Types of volunteering

Volunteer

Social volunteering.
This is work with orphans, lonely old people, the disabled, the poor, migrants, refugees, homeless and other people who are in a difficult life situation. Volunteers can provide them with material support, collecting and distributing food and hygiene kits, clothing, and stationery. Volunteers help their clients with legal issues, for example, to restore or process documents, and provide psychological and social support.

Environmental Volunteering.
Volunteers in this broad area help nature – they clean up trash, hold subbotniks and separate waste collection events, put out fires, plant trees, protect animals, and educate the public.

Medical Volunteering.
This can include the donation of blood and blood components, assistance from medical volunteers, entertainment events in hospitals for patients, pro bono work of psychologists with the seriously ill, work in hospices.

Patriotic Volunteering.
Such activists help keep the memory of the war alive. Volunteers visit veterans, search for soldiers’ graves, restore the names of missing people, help conduct patriotic events and educational activities.

Volunteer Rescuers.
These volunteers help those in emergency situations. They search for missing people, put out fires together with eco-volunteers, help eliminate the consequences of disasters, and rescue people and animals from various adversities. For example, they pull cats out of air vents, lift old people who have fallen awkwardly in their apartments, provide first aid and are always ready to go on a call.

Cultural Volunteering.
Its volunteers help in museums, parks, libraries, houses of culture and theaters. Volunteers are invited to help organize festivals, exhibitions, actions and workshops, create public spaces and tourist routes, restore historical and cultural monuments.

Sports Volunteering.
Volunteers in this area promote healthy lifestyles and participate in the organization of sports events, from backyard relay races to the Olympics. In addition, volunteers actively talk about the effects of bad habits and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, conduct educational activities, contests, and hikes.

Scientific Volunteering.
This is any activity by non-professionals in science. Volunteers can help to conduct research: fill out questionnaires, participate in psychological experiments, test suits and equipment. This does not require any special knowledge.
