AmeriCorps members often solidify existing interests and work toward future career goals during their service experience. This was the case for 24-year-old Tucker Hlad. Currently performing his service through online video and chat features due to COVID-19 restrictions, Tucker shares about his experience with Mentors for Success in Columbus and how it has shaped him personally and professionally.

AmeriCorps impacts members’ lives in more ways than they plan. For alumna, Mackenzie Bower, AmeriCorps instilled in her a passion for service that will carry with her far beyond her completion of the program. Learn more about Mackenzie’s service experience and what she’s up to now.

Justice Talking is a reading and discussion program for AmeriCorps members featuring facilitated discussions that use short philosophical and literary texts, images, and videos on the nature of justice, service and related themes. In partnership with Ohio Humanities, ServeOhio trains AmeriCorps members to facilitate Justice Talking with their fellow Corps members, where they become more familiar with the art of humanities-based discussion and have a better understanding of the importance of civic reflection. Sierra Faris is a Justice Talking facilitator with the COMCorps AmeriCorps program in Athens. Read her reflections on the impact Justice Talking has had on her service.

Ohio History Service Corps members help local organizations put history to work in their community through historic site survey, collections digitization, and capacity building for local historical organizations. Cyrus Moore is in his third year of service with the Ohio History Service Corps, serving as a Local History member with the Southeast Ohio History Center in Athens for two years and now with the Ohio History Connection in Columbus. Three years of service with an organization means you love what you’re doing and in honor of February and Valentine’s Day, ServeOhio asked Cyrus how his service puts his passion to work.
