22 July Meet our New AmeriCorps Programs July 22, 2020 By rverhoffkiss AmeriCorps 0 ServeOhio is proud to be the administrator of the AmeriCorps Program in Ohio. As a result of our work with our community partners, over 900 AmeriCorps members will serve 1.2 million hours at 600 service sites across the state in this year alone. Additionally, the AmeriCorps members will earn $4.2 million in education awards that can be spent on post-secondary education or to pay off student loans. In the 2020-21 Program Year, we are delighted to welcome six new AmeriCorps programs into our portfolio. These programs will support 123 AmeriCorps members who will serve in schools, nonprofits, and community organizations throughout Ohio. Learn more about our new programs! Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association - NCA Community Connector Corps 30 AmeriCorps members will provide quality out of school time programs with a focus on educational opportunities, positive social interactions, and outreach for K-12 students and their families in Cleveland Metropolitan School District schools or non-profit organizations, and support aging in place programs with one-on-one and group activities in Cleveland neighborhoods. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for empowering students to improve their academic engagement and social-emotional skills; and also contribute to outreach efforts to engage older adults to receive enrichment programs to decrease social isolation and loneliness and support independent living safely in their homes. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage volunteers who will engage in providing peer and youth mentoring services, community service projects, and/or enhancing opportunities to support the project. Ohio Children's Alliance - Ohio Children's Alliance TAY AmeriCorps Program 10 AmeriCorps members will serve as Peer Support Specialists for transition age youth ages 17-21 who are preparing to emancipate or have emancipated from foster care throughout the state of Ohio. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing awareness of post emancipation options and improving compliance with post emancipation plans among soon to be former foster youth. In addition, AmeriCorps members will leverage volunteers for community service projects. Ohio Domestic Violence Network - Financial Freedom Corps 20 AmeriCorps members will provide economic opportunity services to domestic violence survivors who receive services at twenty domestic violence programs across Ohio. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for providing survivors with financial education/economic empowerment services and housing counseling. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage volunteers who will be engaged in assisting members with financial education courses or helping participants access community resources. Baldwin Wallace University - AmeriCorps CHANGE, INC. 12 AmeriCorps members will serve as Community Health and Empowerment Navigators for Cleveland residents vulnerable to food insecurity at the MetroHealth System, Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation, and Metro West Community Development Organization. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing vulnerable individuals’ knowledge of and motivation to utilize existing food, nutrition, and health and economic opportunity resources available within the Cleveland communities. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage volunteers with assistance for referring participants to existing food, nutrition, and health and economic opportunity resources. Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation - Serving Ohio Veterans AmeriCorps Program 5 AmeriCorps members will focus on Veterans and Military Families by promoting Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training and working with community-based veteran organizations in the major cities of Ohio. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for individuals reporting a change in behavior or intent to change their behavior to improve their health. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage volunteers to assist with National Days of Service projects. University of Dayton - University of Dayton Community Corps 46 AmeriCorps members will serve in two of Dayton Metro Libraries and four Neighborhood School Centers with their Family Resource offices. At the end of the first program year, AmeriCorps members will be responsible for providing educational and social support to children and their families in Dayton. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage university and community volunteers who will be engaged in educational enrichment activities and educational support for the patrons of these programs.
