Happy AmeriCorps Week!

This blog post was written by William Hall, Executive Director of ServeOhio.

As our communities continue to confront the devastating impacts of COVID-19, now one year later, national service is playing a more critical role than ever. In honor of AmeriCorps Week (March 7th-14th), we are proud to recognize and celebrate the many contributions of AmeriCorps members serving Ohio communities to “get things done.” In the current program year, over 900 AmeriCorps members will complete 1.2 million hours of service at 500+ sites across the state addressing the frontline issues in education, health and economic opportunity.

Ohio AmeriCorps members’ service has been crucial in moving communities forward following a year of challenges brought on by the pandemic. Members have been providing valuable support throughout the past year by helping students adapt to virtual learning; now they will return to the classroom to support those same students in overcoming learning losses caused by the pandemic. They also serve at nonprofits and community organizations working to address the lingering opioid epidemic, food insecurity and social health disparities.

AmeriCorps members are the boots on the ground support in our communities. They are key to our country’s well-being and recovery. And this week, we pause to let them know we are grateful for their dedication and selfless service. To learn more about the AmeriCorps program, click here.
