During this time of crisis, the most important thing we can do is stay home, practice social distancing and of course, wash our hands. Everyone is experiencing this pandemic differently and it is difficult for all of us; but some members of our communities are especially vulnerable and in need of help. With the chaos and disruption caused by the pandemic, it’s easy to feel isolated and powerless. But the truth is we all have the power and ability to help others in our community who are struggling. Here are 4 ways you can help.

AmeriCorps impacts members’ lives in more ways than they plan. For alumna, Mackenzie Bower, AmeriCorps instilled in her a passion for service that will carry with her far beyond her completion of the program. Learn more about Mackenzie’s service experience and what she’s up to now.

AmeriCorps members often learn new passions or solidify existing interests during their service experience. This was definitely the case for 25-year-old Ryan Van Curen. Currently in his second AmeriCorps service year, Ryan shares about his experiences with City Year in Columbus and how it has shaped him personally and professionally.

Justice Talking is a reading and discussion program for AmeriCorps members featuring facilitated discussions that use short philosophical and literary texts, images, and videos on the nature of justice, service and related themes. In partnership with Ohio Humanities, ServeOhio trains AmeriCorps members to facilitate Justice Talking with their fellow Corps members, where they become more familiar with the art of humanities-based discussion and have a better understanding of the importance of civic reflection. Sierra Faris is a Justice Talking facilitator with the COMCorps AmeriCorps program in Athens. Read her reflections on the impact Justice Talking has had on her service.
