Have you met our AmeriHeroes?

The Ohio LeaderCorps members provide a statewide network in which Ohio’s AmeriCorps members share ideas, experiences, and a spirit of service while taking a leadership position within their AmeriCorps program. The other AmeriCorps members and staff refer to their LeaderCorps member as an AmeriHero because of their above-and-beyond dedication and commitment to their team and to the community.

Ohio Youth Lead Community Change on Global Youth Service Day

On April 12-14, more than 1,300 volunteers will participate in service projects organized for Global Youth Service Day, which will be supported by ServeOhio project grants. Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth. Nineteen youth volunteer projects will take place in thirteen Ohio cities – Athens, Cincinnati, Columbus, Coolville, East Cleveland, Elyria, Greenville, Hamilton, McArthur, Middletown, Napoleon, Springfield, and Wellsville.

3 Takeaways from my VISTA Service

As spring approaches, so does the start of the 2019-20 recruitment season of Ohio’s AmeriCorps programs. It’s exciting to think about the coming crop of people committing to a year of service with AmeriCorps. It’s a bit like a choose your own adventure tale—you can make a difference in fields as diverse as healthcare, education, environmental, and capacity building. This time of fresh opportunity makes me reflect on my time as an AmeriCorps VISTA member and how it impacted my life.
